Peer Education Save Lives

Teen Council members empower, educate, and inspire those we know, including our peers, families and communities. Teen Council groups are made up of a diverse group of 10-12th grade volunteers and led by a highly trained and passionate sexual health educator.  Members come to the group with different beliefs and views.  No one is expected to already know about sexual health. Teen Council is inclusive and welcoming and works actively to be anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, and anti-transphobic.

The Teen Council Experience

Retreat

Teen Council starts with a three-day retreat. Here’s your chance to get to know your fellow Teen Council members. Plus there’s lots of food, free time activities, and bonding with other members.

Weekly Meetings

We meet weekly during the school year. Learn about sexual health topics, from barrier methods and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to gender and sexual orientation. Meetings are a mix of activities, discussion, and practice. They also include food and fun!

Advocacy

The annual Teen Council Lobby Day is your chance to have your voice heard by your elected officials. What are the issues you care about and how can policy makers improve the lives of the young people they represent?

Peer Education

Here’s where you’ll really make an impact on the lives of your peers!  Teen Council members go to local schools to deliver dynamic and engaging presentations on topics like sexual health, safer sex, relationships, and consent.

Connections

Teen Council is more than just peer education, it’s a community! Meeting new people, sharing different perspectives, and working together to educate others means creating deep bonds that will last long after high school.

Teen Council Testimonials

Rayy (she/her), Washington

My sex ed has been full of misconceptions and sex ed has often been a way to just prohibit teen sexual activity.  This has had adverse impacts on LGBTQ, BIPOC, and fem-identified folks.  I know change is needed and that’s why I joined Teen Council.

Isabel (she/her), Alaska

Teen Council gave me the opportunity to travel to my state capitol where we lobbied state legislators to create comprehensive and inclusive sex education standards across the state. Meeting people who have the kind of job I want someday was a wonderful experience. Lobby Day inspired me to keep pushing for this crucial sex education to be taught to every student.

Kyndia (she/her), Kentucky

I am a Teen Council peer educator because I want to learn important tools that people are not usually taught about our health and bodies. Learning is an amazing thing but being given the opportunity to teach and spread the knowledge I am gaining is miraculous.
