Medication abortion means taking two pills. Our provider will mail these pills after your virtual visit, and they will arrive to your address in Washington within 2 - 3 days.
- The first pill, mifepristone, works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which stops your pregnancy from developing.
- The second pill, misoprostol, is taken up to 48 hours later, and causes cramping and bleeding that empties your uterus.
- For most people, the process takes about five hours, but may take up to 24 hours.
- You may be tired for a day or two afterwards, but you can go back to work or school the next day if you feel up to it.
