The Challenge

  • More than 200 million people in low- and middle-income countries who want to delay or plan childbirth lack access to birth control, information, and services.

  • Pregnancy is a leading cause of death for adolescent girls worldwide — nearly 70,000 die every year from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.

  • Half of the world’s population is under 25. Yet young people often face stigma, cultural taboos, discrimination, and misinformation that prevents them from meeting their sexual and reproductive health needs.

  • Each year, an estimated 25 million unsafe abortions occur worldwide.

Backing the Brave

Planned Parenthood Global, the international arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, has worked overseas for 50 years to break down barriers to health care and champion the brave people putting their safety on the line each day for reproductive freedom. In partnership with more than 70 organizations across Africa and Latin America, we advance the health and rights of all people, working tirelessly to combat inequities in historically marginalized and under-resourced communities.

We don’t operate Planned Parenthood health centers outside the United States. Instead we back brave people, policies, programs, and movements — empowering local partners and allies with resources as they provide critical information, services and advocacy in restrictive environments.

Our Goal

Grow the locally led, globally connected movement for safe abortion and sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The work PP Global supports:

  • Young people amplifying, advocating and increasing access to care for themselves and their peers

  • Sexual and reproductive health providers and health officials pushing care and laws to the leading edge, including abortion and self care

  • U.S. policy and investments that not only stop harm but repair and restore

  • Tracking and mitigating the work of the global opposition

  • Piloting new technology, digital products, and data innovation to improve outcomes, effectiveness, and efficiency

  • Connecting advocates around the world to trade learning and build global momentum for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
