How do I avoid getting scabies?

Scabies is very contagious and easily spread through skin-to-skin touching. So the only definite way to prevent scabies is to not have close, intimate contact with anyone. Also avoid touching or sharing clothes with people you know are infected, until they finish treatment.

Condoms are super great at preventing other STDs (like HIV), but they don’t protect you from scabies. Scabies may seem kind of scary, especially because it’s so easy to spread. But try not to stress out too much about getting it. The good news is, scabies is easy to treat and doesn’t usually cause serious health problems.

How can I prevent spreading scabies?

Carefully follow all the steps for treating scabies. Don’t have sex until you and your partner(s) have all finished your treatments, and avoid close, personal contact with people. Don’t share clothes or bedding until after you’re scabies-free and have washed everything properly.
