Dr. Sara C. Flowers is vice president of education at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). She is an advocate for evidence-based sex education that is informed by emotional intelligence. Her experience is focused on ensuring that sex education curricula is adapted appropriately and followed in practice, dismantling sexual and reproductive health disparities, serving youth of color, and strengthening abortion access. 

As vice president of education, Sara sets the vision, priorities, and strategy for sex education and training at Planned Parenthood. She is the Planned Parenthood spokesperson for sex education, providing context and framing for the many ways sex education supports and advances PPFA’s vision and mission.

Dr. Flowers was previously the director of youth initiatives for Love Heals Center for Youth and Families at GMHC. She was also an adjunct assistant professor for York College, CUNY while serving as a post-doctoral research fellow for the college’s Collaborative Research Group on Health Policy and Promotion and the UrbanHealth Lab.

She is a recognized speaker at regional and national conferences, with expertise in issues related to race and gender equity in health care. Sara has a PhD in public health from the Graduate School and University Center, CUNY, and a BA in psychology and an MPH degree from George Washington University.
